Travel guide Stockholm

Stockholm, the beautiful Swedish capital, is a city of water and greenery, where ancient meets modern in a way that is as harmonious as it is inspiring. From the cobbled streets and colourful facades of Gamla Stan (the Old Town) to the avant-garde designs and vibrant nightlife of the Södermalm district, Stockholm is a city of contrasts that captivates every visitor.
Founded in 1252, Stockholm has a rich history that is reflected in its urban landscape. From an important Viking trading centre, Stockholm has developed into an influential modern metropolis. The Royal Palace, the largest surviving inhabited palace in Europe, and history museums such as the Vasa Museum bear witness to its opulent past and cultural importance.
Stockholm is easily accessible via Stockholm-Arlanda International Airport, which offers direct flights from many of the world's major cities. If you prefer to travel by train, SJ (Swedish Railways) offers excellent services. And if you like to drive, Sweden's motorways are well maintained and offer picturesque scenery.

Accommodation

For luxury, consider the Grand Hotel, with its breathtaking views of the Royal Palace. For a mid-range budget, the Hellsten Hotel offers a unique experience with its mix of classic and modern styles. And for budget travellers, the City Backpackers Hostel offers comfort and conviviality.

Gastronomy

Don't leave Stockholm without trying surströmming (fermented herring), a traditional Swedish dish. For a more upmarket dining experience, try the Oaxen Slip restaurant. And for a casual meal, the Ostermalm food market is a must.
