It became the centre of a new era of innovation, science and technology, known for its thriving textile mills and iconic canals. Over time, Manchester has evolved into a cultural metropolis, home to the BBC Philharmonic and one of the world's most famous football clubs, Manchester United.
You can get to Manchester by various means of transport. Manchester Airport is one of the busiest in the UK, with regular flights from Europe, America, Asia and Africa. Manchester is also easily accessible by train from London, Birmingham, Leeds and Liverpool. You can also opt to take the bus or drive via the M6 motorway.
