Travel guide Bodø

Bodø, the northern town where the sun never sets in summer and the northern lights dance across the sky in winter. Nestled between rugged mountains and the sparkling waters of the Arctic Circle, Bodø offers an authentic Scandinavian experience. It's a captivating blend of wilderness, vibrant urban culture and Nordic adventure. It's the perfect place for those looking to explore beyond the ordinary.
Bodø has a rich and varied history dating back to the Stone Age. The town was officially founded in 1816, although the earliest settlements in the area date back thousands of years. During the Second World War, Bodø was almost completely destroyed by German bombing, but it has been rebuilt into a modern and vibrant city.
Bodø airport is well served by domestic flights from Oslo and other major Norwegian cities. You can also take a scenic train from Trondheim to Bodø, passing through some of Norway's most beautiful countryside. Long-distance buses are also available, as are ferries for those travelling from the Lofoten Islands.

For the ultimate in luxury, opt for the Thon Hotel Nordlys, offering stunning harbour views. For a more affordable choice, the City Hotel Bodø offers excellent value in the heart of the city. For travellers on a budget, the Bodø Hostel is a comfortable and friendly option.
